Halesowen

Albert was promoted to Chief Inspector in 1950 and the family moved from Stourport and set up home in the Police Station in New Road, Halesowen.  The Police Station in New Road was demolished in the 1970s - a sad loss.

Some items below give a small insight into the Halesowen of the 1920s, the 1950s and other times.  Halesowen is a very different place today, whether the changes have improved the town is, as always, subjective.

Detailed 1950 Maps of Halesowen

Below are two maps of Halesowen (proper) in 1950.  To retain the detail the map has been divided into two sections, North and South and loaded as original scans. Just click on the link and the files will open, I hope, on almost any computer.

Proposed Halesowen Tramway

Interesting but mostly unknown proposals for a Halesowen Tramway linking into the extensive Birmingham Tram system. The Board of Trade authorized the construction of the "Halesowen Light Railway" in 1901 with further extensions in 1902 together with the necessary borrowing powers given to Halesowen RDC. For a number reasons the Tramway was never constructed which is a pity.  What a wonderful sight it would have to see a tram ascending Mucklow Hill!
